Hearts of Oak produced a spirited display to defeat arch-rivals Asante Kotoko 1–0 in a fiercely contested Super Clash on Sunday evening in Kumasi, despite playing a significant portion of the match with ten men.
The decisive moment came in the first half when defender Baba Adamu rose to the occasion, scoring the only goal of the encounter from a header to hand the Phobians bragging rights in one of Ghana football’s fiercest rivalries. The early strike set the tone for a match defined by intensity, tactical discipline and unrelenting pressure from both sides.
Hearts’ task grew tougher later in the half when they were reduced to ten men following the dismissal of defender Emmanuel Amankwa forcing them to dig deep defensively. However, coach Didi Dramani demonstrated his tactical acumen against his former club, reorganising his side effectively to withstand Kotoko’s attempts to fight back.
Kotoko entered the match amid turbulence following the resignation of head coach Karim Zito just a week earlier. The interim technical team struggled to break down a resilient Hearts defence that remained compact and disciplined throughout the second half.
The victory propels Hearts of Oak to second place on the league table with 39 points, narrowing the gap to five behind leaders Medeama SC and strengthening their title ambitions as the season gathers momentum.
For Kotoko, the defeat adds to a difficult period of transition, while Hearts will take immense confidence from a win that showcased their resilience, tactical maturity and ability to grind out results under pressure in high-stakes fixtures.
