2025 AFCON QUALIFIERS: Alexander Djiku Ruled Out of Angola, Niger clashes Due to Injury

Ghana defender Alexander Djiku has been ruled out of the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger due to a thigh injury. The 30-year-old Fenerbahce player sustained the injury during his club’s match against Alanyaspor, where he was forced to leave the pitch on the 61st minute.

Medical scans have confirmed that Djiku suffered a Grade One strain in the quadriceps of his right thigh. The injury is expected to sideline him for 10-14 days, making him unavailable for the crucial qualifiers.

Djiku was a key member of Otto Addo’s 23-man squad, and his absence is a significant blow to Ghana’s defensive lineup. Reports indicate that Coach Addo may consider calling up a late replacement, as a standby list of players is reportedly in place.

Since making his debut for the Black Stars in October 2020, Djiku has earned 31 caps and has been an integral part of the national team.

Ghana is set to face Angola on September 5 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, followed by a match against Niger in Morocco five days later. Djiku’s injury presents a challenge as the team prepares for these important fixtures.
