GFA Hands Prosper Narteh Ogum Two-Year Deal to Lead Black Starlets Revival

The Ghana Football Association has taken a significant step toward strengthening youth football by handing Prosper Narteh Ogum a two-year contract as head coach of the national Under-17 team.

The decision reflects a renewed emphasis on continuity and structured development within the junior ranks, as the FA looks to reposition the Black Starlets among Africa’s elite. Ogum, who assumed the role after Frimpong Manso’s departure, has already made an immediate impact by steering the team to qualification for the 2026 CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, set for April.

Reacting to his confirmation in the role, Ogum expressed gratitude for the opportunity and outlined a broader vision that stretches beyond short-term competition.

“I appreciate the confidence the Association has shown in me. This stability allows us to focus on building a team that is technically refined, tactically organised and mentally resilient. Our objective is not only to compete at the upcoming tournament but to lay a solid foundation for the future of Ghana football,” he stated.

In addition to his coaching duties, Ogum also serves as the GFA’s Head of Education, a position that aligns closely with his philosophy of structured player growth and technical advancement.

His coaching résumé adds further weight to the appointment. He guided Asante Kotoko to the Ghana Premier League title in 2022, led West Africa Football Academy to a second-place league finish, and previously managed Ebusua Dwarfs. He also gained national team experience as an assistant with the Black Galaxies.

With preparations underway for the continental championship, attention now turns to assembling a balanced and competitive squad capable of restoring Ghana’s reputation in youth football. The FA has pledged the necessary technical and logistical support, signalling a long-term project built on planning, patience and sustained investment in young talent.
