EDITORIAL: Kurt Okraku, a transformational leader Ghana Football can never forget

Under the leadership of Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, Ghanaian football is experiencing a renaissance marked by unprecedented support and empowerment for clubs across all levels of the game.

With a visionary approach and a commitment to enhancing the football landscape, Okraku’s administration has introduced ground-breaking initiatives aimed at revolutionizing the sport and ensuring its sustainable growth.

One of the most notable transformations under Okraku’s stewardship is the comprehensive support provided to clubs, particularly in the area of resource allocation.

Gone are the days when clubs struggled to afford essential equipment like football boots and balls. Now, thanks to the proactive measures implemented by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), all 18 Premier League Clubs, 48 Division One League clubs, and 20 Women’s Premier League clubs receive 30 pairs of football boots each season, along with 30 footballs. This not only ensures that players have access to the necessary gear but also alleviates the financial burden on club owners.

Moreover, financial support from sponsorships has significantly bolstered the financial stability of clubs. Premier League clubs receive a minimum of $36,000 annually, while Division One League and Women’s Premier League clubs are allocated 80,000 cedis and 60,000 cedis per season, respectively. This injection of funds empowers clubs to invest in player development, infrastructure, and other operational expenses, fostering a conducive environment for growth and success.

Recognizing the importance of logistical support, the GFA covers officiating fees for Division One League clubs, amounting to 52,500 cedis each. Additionally, all clubs benefit from 5,000 cedis worth of shopping vouchers from Melcom, further easing the financial strain on club management.

The significance of these interventions cannot be overstated. By providing clubs with essential resources and financial assistance, Okraku’s administration is not only ensuring the sustainability of clubs but also fostering a more competitive and professional football ecosystem in Ghana. Club owners are now able to allocate their resources more efficiently, focusing on improving the quality of play and enhancing the overall fan experience.

It is important to note that these interventions represent a paradigm shift in Ghanaian football governance, as they have never been implemented on such a scale before.

Under Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku’s visionary leadership, Ghana football is not just evolving—it is thriving. With a steadfast commitment to excellence and innovation, Okraku and his administration are laying the foundation for a brighter future for the beautiful game in Ghana.
