Black Starlets coach Laryea Kingston commended his technical staff following the team’s impressive 5-1 victory over Ivory Coast in the opening match of the 2024 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship.
Kingston, in his debut as a national coach, credited the success to his coaching team’s guidance.
During the post-match press conference, Kingston revealed that he initially contemplated a change in the team’s formation from 4-3-3 to 3-4-3 but was persuaded by his technical staff to stick to the original plan, which proved effective.
He emphasized the importance of adaptability, mentioning that the team had prepared two systems of play based on opponents’ tendencies.
Analyzing the opponents’ strategies against Argentina and France, Kingston highlighted the focus on both on and off-ball scenarios, which informed the team’s preparation and contributed to their victory. He expressed gratitude to his technical team and supporters for their contributions.
Looking ahead, the Black Starlets are gearing up to face Benin in their next group game. With three points, Ghana leads the table, followed by Benin, who are yet to play, with Ivory Coast at the bottom.
