Asare Jnr scored the winning spot kick as Dagomba triumphed over Asante in the round of 16 of the NQUAD Inter Tribal Football Gala on Monday.
Dagomba were close to winning in regulation time after Zakari’s curler, but Lampard’s powerful shot in injury time forced a penalty shootout.
Asante had the first chance to take the lead, but Afoakwa’s effort went wide. Dagomba also came close through Asare Jnr, whose header hit the crossbar.
The best first-half chance fell to Abedi of Asante, but his feeble shot was saved by the keeper.
The second half was filled with drama as both teams pushed for the winner.
Zakari expertly finished home a shot from a tight angle just after the break, but Asante lifted their performance, playing with intensity.
Despite their efforts, they failed to break Dagomba’s resolute defense until Lampard blasted home a shot outside the penalty box in injury time, sending the game to penalties.
Dagomba converted all five penalties, while Asante missed one, propelling Dagomba to the quarterfinals.
Franklin Osei Lampard of Asante was named Man of the Match.
