Following their win over host Dominican Republic last night, Nigeria’s U17 women’s team have now made it
3 wins from 3 games in the ongoing FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
In their quest to becoming the first ever African nation to win the world cup, the flamingos are not relenting in their efforts to make it happened.
They opened their campaign in the competition with a 4-1 win over New Zealand. They then better their performance with a clean sheet by beating Ecuador U17 W 4-0.
Going into their final group game, they were already aware of their spot in the next stage of the competition, but in order to cement their authority as the leading African representative and a third placed team in the last edition of the competition, they fought hard to record a slim 1-0 win over host Dominican Republic.
The competition since it’s inception in 2008 have had only 5 countries winning it. Three from Asia ( North Korea, South Korea and Japan) and two from Europe (Spain and France).
North Korea and Spain are the only two countries to have won it twice.
As the only surviving African nation left in the tournament, Nigeria’s flamingos wants to make a big statement.
