The fourth edition of the Inter-Tribes Football Tournament has kicked off in style, delivering plenty of drama, goals, and surprises in the first round of group matches.
Defending champions Zabarma began their title defense with a narrow victory over Gurunshi/Sissala in Group B, while last year’s runners-up Builsa edged Ewe in the opening Group A clash.
Buzaaye Tamacheq recorded the biggest upset of the round, stunning former champions Moshie with a 2-1 win in Group C.
The likes of Asante, Fante, and Mamprushi also got off to winning starts in their respective fixtures.
Across 12 matches, 23 goals were scored, with eight teams managing to keep clean sheets, setting the stage for an exciting tournament ahead.
Group A saw Builsa defeat Ewe courtesy of a fine strike from Awudu Mohammed, while Yadiga and Waala played out a goalless draw.
Group B featured defending champions Zabarma edging Gurunshi/Sissala in a five-goal thriller, and Wangara claiming a 2-0 victory over Gurma.
Group C produced one of the tournament’s early surprises as Buzaaye Tamacheq overcame Moshie 2-1, while Chokosi narrowly beat Gonja.
Group D ended with mixed fortunes, as Hausa were held to a 1-1 draw by Dagomba, and Frafra secured a 1-0 win against Yoruba.
In Group E, Asante handed Fulani a painful 1-0 defeat, with Songhai defeating Bissa 2-0 to complete a strong start.
Group F saw Fante edge Banda in a tight contest, while Mamprushi got past Kotokoli by a single goal, signaling fierce competition in the group.
Overall, the opening round featured 10 wins and just 2 draws, offering fans a glimpse of the high stakes and quality on display this year.
