The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the continuation of its comprehensive support package for all 20 clubs participating in the Women’s Premier League for the upcoming season, with a significant boost in the cash incentive to strengthen women’s football in the country.
According to the GFA President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku at the 31st Ordinary Congress of the association, last season’s support programme will be maintained in full. This includes the payment of full refereeing fees for all 20 clubs, the supply of football boots, provision of footballs, buses for the top four clubs, a GH₵5,000 Melcom shopping voucher for each club, and GH₵15,000 worth of fuel coupons for all 20 clubs.
In a move set to further motivate clubs and players, the Association has increased the cash incentive from GH₵60,000 to GH₵100,000 per club. This is expected to ease operational burdens and encourage greater competitiveness in the league.
Speaking on the initiative, a GFA official reiterated the Association’s commitment to the growth and development of the women’s game, describing the support as part of a broader strategy to professionalise and elevate women’s football nationwide.
“The GFA will maintain last season’s Women’s Premier League support: payment of full refereeing fees for all 20 clubs, supply of football boots, provision of footballs, provision of buses for the top four clubs, GH₵5,000 voucher for shopping at Melcom, supply of GH₵15,000 worth of fuel coupons to all 20 clubs and the cash incentive of GH₵60,000 increased to GH₵100,000,” the official confirmed.
With this renewed and enhanced backing, stakeholders are optimistic that the upcoming Women’s Premier League season will reach new heights both in quality and competitiveness.
