Kurt Okraku Seeks Police Support for Justice in Nana Pooley Case

President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has called on the leadership of the Ghana Police Service to help fast-track justice in the case of slain Asante Kotoko SC supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, widely known as Nana Pooley.

The appeal was made during a high-level engagement between officials of the FA and the Police Service at the national headquarters in Accra. The discussions centered on strengthening safety measures at match venues and ensuring accountability in incidents related to domestic football.

Nana Pooley tragically lost his life during a Ghana Premier League fixture in 2025, an event that sent shockwaves through the local football fraternity and reignited concerns about crowd control and supporter protection. Although the matter is currently before the courts, it has been more than a year since the incident occurred.

Addressing the meeting, Okraku emphasized the need for closure, stating that delivering justice would not only honor the memory of the deceased but also restore public confidence in the management of the game. He underscored that safeguarding supporters must remain a collective duty between football authorities and security agencies.

In response, Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno assured the GFA of the Service’s continued cooperation, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining order at football events and supporting the legal process to its conclusion.
