Reports emerging from Ouagadougou suggest that the Burkina Faso Football Federation has initiated contact with veteran Ghanaian coach James Kwesi Appiah over a possible appointment as head coach of the country’s senior national team.
According to insiders, initial conversations have already taken place as the federation weighs its options in a bid to reinforce the technical direction of the Stallions ahead of key international fixtures. The interest in Appiah signals Burkina Faso’s intention to secure an experienced African manager with a strong track record on the continental stage.
Appiah is presently in charge of the Sudan national football team, where he has overseen a notable turnaround. Under his leadership, Sudan advanced to the knockout phase of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, surpassing expectations in a fiercely contested competition.
He also steered the team to a semi-final berth at the 2024 African Nations Championship, further strengthening his reputation as a coach capable of building competitive sides even with limited resources.
The 65-year-old tactician previously guided the Ghana national football team to the 2014 FIFA World Cup and led multiple campaigns at the Africa Cup of Nations during his tenure with the Black Stars.
While discussions between Appiah and Burkina Faso are said to be in the early stages, the situation could develop into one of the most significant coaching movements in West African football should negotiations progress.
For now, neither association has issued an official statement, with further developments expected in the coming weeks.
