Asante Kotoko bounced back in style with a dominant away display against Young Apostles FC at the Wenchi Sports Stadium on Sunday.
After going three matches without a victory, the Porcupine Warriors arrived with clear intent, and they wasted no time stamping their authority on the contest.
The breakthrough came inside six minutes when Johnson Oppong Owusu rose above his marker to power home a well-delivered cross from Albert Amoah. The early strike instantly settled the visitors and silenced the home crowd.
Kotoko tightened their grip on the match shortly after, doubling their advantage midway through the first half. Skipper Samba O’Neil guided a header goalward, and a slight touch off a defender wrong-footed the goalkeeper before the ball nestled into the net.
With a two-goal cushion secured before the interval, Kotoko shifted gears, showing composure and discipline to manage proceedings. They limited Young Apostles’ attacking opportunities and maintained control through smart possession and organized defending.
The victory not only restores confidence after their recent dip, including a setback in the much-talked-about Super Clash, but also pushes Kotoko back into the league’s top four. Despite the positive result, they remain seven points adrift of the summit as the title chase gathers momentum.
For Young Apostles, the defeat compounds their struggles. The Wenchi-based side continue to flirt with danger near the bottom of the table as the fight for survival intensifies.
