Ghana Division One League outfit FC Ashantigold 04 have bolstered their technical department with the addition of seasoned coach Abdul Karim Zito, as the push for Premier League qualification intensifies.
The experienced tactician becomes part of the club’s backroom staff following his recent departure from Asante Kotoko. Although his stint with the Kumasi-based giants ended amid mixed results, Zito’s reputation within Ghanaian football remains firmly intact due to his vast experience and competitive pedigree.
In an official communication, Ashantigold expressed optimism about the impact the former youth national team coach is expected to make, highlighting his leadership qualities, tactical knowledge and winning mentality as valuable assets to their campaign.
Zito’s résumé on the domestic scene underscores his credentials. During his time with Kotoko, he played a key role in securing notable silverware, including the FA Cup, President’s Cup and the Toyota Cup, reaffirming his status as a coach capable of delivering results.
Prior to that, he earned widespread recognition for guiding Dreams FC on a memorable continental journey in the CAF Confederation Cup, reaching the semi-finals before their impressive run was halted by Egyptian heavyweights Zamalek SC.
Currently sitting atop Zone 2 with 40 points from 20 matches, Ashantigold appear well-positioned in the promotion race. The club will now rely on Zito’s experience and structured approach to maintain their advantage and steer them back to Ghana’s top-flight league.
