Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, began their Pink Ladies Cup campaign in fine style with a commanding 3-0 win over Hong Kong at the Al-Hamriya Sports Club Stadium in the United Arab Emirates.
After a somewhat shaky opening spell, the Queens quickly settled into the contest and took control of proceedings. Their breakthrough arrived in the 28th minute when FC Nordsjaelland forward Princess Marfo found the back of the net to hand Ghana a deserved lead.
The advantage was doubled ten minutes later courtesy of Israel-based forward Doris Boaduwaa, who capitalised on a costly defensive mistake by Hong Kong to calmly slot home from close range. Ghana carried that two-goal cushion into the halftime break.
The Queens wasted no time after the restart. Just 60 seconds into the second half, Nottingham Forest attacker Chantelle Hlorkah-Boye reacted quickest in the box to convert after Hong Kong failed to properly deal with a dangerous corner delivery from Comfort Yeboah.
Ghana had the opportunity to extend their lead further in the 54th minute when Boaduwaa was fouled inside the penalty area. The forward stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick herself, but her effort was denied by the goalkeeper.
Substitute Ajegipina Zakaria, making her senior national team debut, later put the icing on the cake by scoring late on to complete a comprehensive and confidence-boosting victory for the Queens.
Following the win, head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren and his side will return to training and recovery sessions as they turn their attention to their next fixture against Russia on Tuesday, March 3, at the same venue.
The tournament serves as a valuable preparatory platform for Ghana as they fine-tune their squad and evaluate performances ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.
