Ghanaian international referee Daniel Nii Ayi Laryea has secured another major continental appointment after being named among officials selected for the upcoming CAF Interclub Quarterfinals Preparation Course in Egypt.
The training programme will be hosted in Cairo from March 4 to March 8, 2026, and is designed to prepare elite match officials for the advanced stages of CAF’s club competitions later in the season.
Laryea will attend the course in a dual role as both a FIFA-certified centre referee and a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) official, highlighting his continued rise within African football officiating structures.
A member of the FIFA refereeing panel since 2014, Laryea is regarded as one of Ghana’s most experienced international match officials. His top-flight refereeing career began in 2012 when, at the age of 24, he officiated a Ghana Premier League match between Medeama SC and Berekum Chelsea FC before earning his FIFA badge two years later.
Since breaking onto the international stage, Laryea has handled assignments across several continental tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations, CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, CAF Women’s Champions League, and various WAFU and CHAN competitions. His experience also extends to both VAR and assistant VAR duties in CAF-sanctioned matches.
On the domestic scene, Laryea recently took charge of the high-profile Ghana Premier League “Super Clash” between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, a match decided by a solitary goal in favour of the Phobians.
The Cairo course is expected to enhance officials’ expertise in match control, physical preparation, and VAR communication ahead of the quarterfinal phases of CAF interclub competitions scheduled for later this year.
