The Black Queens of Ghana put on another dominant display at the Pink Ladies Cup, cruising to a 4-0 triumph against Russia to keep their perfect start intact as they prepare for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana asserted themselves early, and it took just eight minutes before midfielder Stella Nyamekye, playing her club football in the United States, opened the scoring with a composed finish in the box.
Doris Boaduwaa then took centre stage, converting a swift counterattack in the 17th minute before calmly adding her second in the 33rd minute to complete her brace and put the game beyond doubt before halftime.
The Black Queens continued to create chances in the second half, and substitute Ajegipina Zakaria sealed the emphatic victory with a goal in the closing minutes.
After the match, head coach Kim Lars Björkegren expressed his happiness with both the result and the team’s progression.
“Of course, you always dream about the best,” he said. “We knew before the game that they were the favourites because of the ranking and the history. But we also know that we trust our girls so much, and we know that we’re just getting better every game, every day. We’re together for every meeting, for every training.”
With two wins from two games, eight goals scored and none conceded, Ghana head into their final group match against Tanzania on March 6 full of confidence.
