Hearts of Oak Seek Return to Winning Ways Against Basake Holy Stars

Hearts of Oak will aim to bounce back to winning ways when they welcome Basake Holy Stars to the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday in a Ghana Premier League fixture.

The Phobians approach the match under pressure after suffering a defeat to Bibiani Gold Stars last weekend. That result continued a run of inconsistent performances following their memorable victory over rivals Asante Kotoko in Kumasi.

Since that triumph, Hearts have dropped valuable points through a draw and a loss, a sequence that has left them trailing league leaders Medeama by six points.

Despite the recent disappointment, Hearts can draw confidence from their impressive defensive displays at the University of Ghana Stadium. The Accra-based side have kept six straight clean sheets at the venue, highlighting the defensive organisation that has become a key feature of their campaign.

After 24 matches this season, Hearts of Oak sit third on the league table with 40 points. Their record includes ten wins, ten draws and four defeats, while they have scored 17 goals and conceded only nine, one of the best defensive records in the competition.

Basake Holy Stars, meanwhile, travel to Accra sitting eighth with 32 points from the same number of matches. They have recorded nine wins, five draws and ten defeats, scoring 21 goals but conceding 29 so far this season.

The visitors arrive with renewed confidence after securing back-to-back victories against Hearts of Lions and Swedru All Blacks. Those results have given them momentum heading into what promises to be a difficult away fixture.

However, Basake Holy Stars struggles on the road remain a concern. They have conceded in each of their last five away matches, a defensive issue they must address if they are to keep a disciplined Hearts side at bay.

Meetings between the two clubs in recent seasons have often been closely contested. Since September 2024, the sides have faced each other three times, with each team claiming one victory while the other encounter ended in a draw. Their most recent meeting, played in November 2025, saw Hearts of Oak edge a 2–1 win.
