Asante Kotoko will travel north to Tamale on Sunday to take on Karela United at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in a crucial Ghana Premier League fixture.
The Porcupine Warriors head into the encounter determined to return to winning ways after dropping points in their previous outing. Kotoko were held to a draw by Vision FC, a result that slowed their progress in the race for a strong finish in the league standings.
Currently sitting fourth on the table, Kotoko have accumulated 39 points from 24 matches. Their campaign so far has produced 10 victories, nine draws and five defeats, with the Kumasi-based side scoring 30 goals while conceding 15.
Interim coach Prince Yaw Owusu will be eager to guide his team back to form as competition for places in the upper half of the table continues to intensify. Another positive result could help the club strengthen its push for a top-four finish.
Karela United, meanwhile, come into the game with growing confidence following a solid run of performances. The side from Aiyinase are unbeaten in their last four matches and most recently played out a goalless draw against Bechem United.
A key factor behind their recent improvement has been their defensive organisation. Karela have managed to keep four straight clean sheets, a run that has helped them remain competitive in the league. They currently occupy seventh place with 35 points.
Past meetings between the two sides have often produced tight contests. Since October 2023, Kotoko and Karela United have faced each other six times, with the Porcupine Warriors claiming three wins while Karela have won twice and one match ended level.
The most recent encounter between the teams took place in November 2025, when Kotoko secured an entertaining 4-2 victory. Across those six meetings, Kotoko hold a slight edge in goals scored, with seven compared to Karela’s six.
With both teams still chasing important points as the season progresses, Sunday’s clash in Tamale promises to be a competitive and closely fought encounter.
