Asante Kotoko interim head coach Prince Yaw Owusu has admitted that his side’s recent struggles at the Baba Yara Stadium have been deeply frustrating, revealing that the team’s inability to secure victories at home continues to trouble both the technical team and supporters.
The Porcupine Warriors have dropped valuable points at their traditional home ground in recent weeks, a situation Owusu believes has affected the team’s momentum in the ongoing Ghana Premier League campaign.
Speaking to Kotoko Media ahead of their upcoming league fixture against Karela United in Tamale, the coach acknowledged that the disappointing results in Kumasi have been difficult to accept.
Kotoko’s recent outings at the Baba Yara Stadium have left fans disappointed, including a narrow 1-0 loss to fierce rivals Hearts of Oak followed by a goalless draw against Vision FC. In both matches, Kotoko had a numerical advantage for the entire second half but still failed to secure maximum points.
Owusu admitted the situation has left him reflecting on the team’s struggles, especially considering the expectations of the club’s passionate supporters in Kumasi.
“It’s not easy at all. I keep thinking about what’s going on, what is happening and why things are not working in Kumasi. All these thoughts go through my mind,” he said.
The coach added that the inability to satisfy the club’s loyal fan base at their home ground has been particularly painful for him and the players.
“It hurts a lot because our fans are in Kumasi and this is where we are supposed to make them happy, but it’s not happening. It’s very difficult for us,” Owusu added.
Despite the challenges, Asante Kotoko remain in fourth place on the Ghana Premier League table. However, their inconsistent home form has cost them important points in the race for the title.
The Porcupine Warriors will now shift focus to their next test against Karela United in Tamale, where they will be hoping to end a long winless run in the northern city that dates back to 2017.
