Former King Faisal F.C. head coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu believes Andre Ayew should not be part of the Ghana national football team squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
The former Ghana Premier League tactician, who currently works as an assistant coach for the Sudan national football team, believes the experienced forward should make way for younger players as the national team prepares for the next global tournament.
Speaking on the issue, Osei-Fosu acknowledged Ayew’s quality but questioned whether the veteran attacker still fits into the current structure of the Black Stars.
“He might be a very, very good player,” he said.
“But you ask yourself in this current setup, is he needed?”
While describing Ayew as a player he admires, the coach suggested the 34-year-old should consider stepping aside while still enjoying strong recognition from supporters.
“Is he needed? For me, no. Dede is my man, but for me, you leave when the applause is high,” he added.
“Dede himself should let it go and then focus on his club football.”
Osei-Fosu also stressed that national team decisions should be guided by the present needs of the squad rather than the past achievements of individual players.
