Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew believes Ghana should maintain the current core of players as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the squad that secured qualification deserves the chance to represent the country on the global stage.
Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Ayew praised the group for their performance during the qualification campaign and highlighted the progress the team has made in recent months. According to the experienced forward, the squad has built strong understanding and unity under head coach Otto Addo.
“I think the players who played during the qualifiers have done extremely well,” Ayew said. “I don’t think we need any additions. I believe we have a good team, and as time goes on, we are improving.”
The Ghana captain added that the growing chemistry within the squad has played a key role in their recent improvement and warned that bringing in many new players could disrupt the balance that has already been built.
“The unity is getting better and everything is improving. I don’t think this is the right time to make changes,” he explained.
While Ayew expressed confidence in the current group, he acknowledged that final decisions about squad selection remain the responsibility of the technical team.
“To be honest, on the technical side, the coach will know whom to attach or select,” he added.
His remarks come at a time when many supporters are debating whether the Ghana Football Association should recruit more dual-nationality players to strengthen the team ahead of the tournament.
Ghana will face a difficult challenge at the World Cup after being drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
