The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that Marvin Senaya will represent the Ghana national football team after turning down the chance to play for the Togo national football team.
The AJ Auxerre full-back found himself in a rare situation after being named in both Ghana and Togo squads for this month’s international friendlies.
Togo had initially handed him a call-up for matches against Guinea national football team and Niger national football team, but Ghana later included him in their squad to face Austria national football team and Germany national football team.
GFA Executive Council member Frederick Acheampong confirmed the player’s decision, revealing his excitement about joining the Black Stars.
“Marvin Senaya is extremely happy after earning a call-up to the Black Stars. He embraces the moment with great excitement,” he said on Kessben FM.
“Despite previously being named in Togo’s squad, he has made it clear that he wants to commit his international future to Ghana.”
Senaya, who qualifies through his Ghanaian mother and Togolese father Yao Mawuko Senaya, is now in line to make his debut for Ghana in the upcoming friendlies.
The Black Stars will take on Austria on March 27 before facing Germany three days later, with Senaya hoping to mark his international switch with a strong start.
