Mohamed Salah Becomes First African to Hit 50 Champions League Goals

Mohamed Salah has reached a historic milestone in the UEFA Champions League, becoming the first African player to score 50 goals in the competition.

The Egyptian forward achieved the feat during Liverpool FC’s emphatic 4-0 win over Galatasaray SK in their Round of 16 second-leg clash on March 18, 2026. His goal in the second half helped seal a 4-1 aggregate victory, sending Liverpool into the quarter-finals.

Salah’s journey to this landmark has been defined by remarkable consistency at the highest level of European football. The majority of his goals have come during his time at Liverpool, where he has established himself as one of the competition’s most lethal forwards. He also scored in the tournament during spells with FC Basel and AS Roma earlier in his career.

With this achievement, Salah moves ahead of African greats such as Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o to become the continent’s all-time leading scorer in the Champions League.

His milestone further cements his legacy as one of Africa’s greatest-ever players, with his performances continuing to shine on Europe’s biggest club stage.

As Liverpool progress deeper into the competition, Salah’s form could once again prove crucial in their pursuit of another Champions League title.
