“When we lose, people try to bring you down” — Addo shrugs off criticism after Austria thrashing

Otto Addo has brushed aside growing criticism following Ghana’s heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria national football team, insisting that backlash comes with the territory of being a coach.

The humiliating loss in Vienna has sparked fresh debate over Addo’s future, with some fans questioning whether he is the right man to lead the Black Stars into the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, the Ghana boss remained calm and composed in his post-match reaction.

“This is the job of a coach. When we lose, people are mainly trying to bring you down. I don’t really read too many things,” Addo said.

“Even if we win, I’m not too much into social media or reading anything. Whatever people say, it’s normal, especially on an evening like this when the team didn’t play well and we also lost,” he added.

Ghana’s performance exposed defensive weaknesses and a lack of cohesion, raising concerns as the team continues its preparations for the global tournament.

Despite the setback, Addo is shifting focus to the next challenge, with the Black Stars set to face Germany national football team in Stuttgart on March 30.

The upcoming fixture offers a chance for redemption as Ghana looks to respond positively and regain confidence ahead of the World Cup.
