“I can’t remember us losing like this” — Addo admits shock after Austria thrashing

Otto Addo has openly admitted his disappointment following Ghana’s heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria national football team, conceding the result caught him off guard.

The Black Stars head coach described the loss in Vienna as one of the lowest moments of his tenure, struggling to recall a similar setback.

“I can’t really remember us losing like this. It was really, really disappointing,” Addo said after the match.

Despite the scoreline, Addo highlighted positives from the first half, where Ghana created several clear-cut chances but failed to convert.

“At the end, I think we had a good first half, where we had some really, really good situations where we could have scored. Out of three or four situations, we at least should have scored one,” he explained.

However, the second-half performance drew strong criticism from the coach, who pointed to a lack of intensity and defensive discipline.

“Second half was really, really not good enough at all. Everybody is playing for the World Cup, and we need to play with more intensity. I expect much, much more against the ball,” Addo stressed.

He also acknowledged that the defeat should serve as a learning curve, particularly for the younger players adjusting to the demands of international football.

“There are big, big lessons to learn, especially for our young players,” he added.

Ghana will now turn their attention to a tougher test against Germany national football team on March 30, where Addo will be expecting a strong response from his side.
