Nick Woltemade has admitted that Germany national team endured a difficult test against the Ghana national team despite securing a 2-1 victory in their international friendly.
The Newcastle United forward, who started the match before being replaced by Leroy Sané, acknowledged that Ghana’s intensity made the game far from straightforward.
“It was an unpleasant game. The win makes the journey home much smoother. We can take a lot away from this match,” Woltemade said.
Germany began strongly but struggled to convert early dominance into goals. “The first 25 minutes were very good; we just lacked a goal. Then things got a bit chaotic because we became somewhat impatient,” he added.
The hosts eventually broke the deadlock just before half-time when Kai Havertz converted from the penalty spot.
Ghana responded impressively after the break, with Abdul Fatawu Issahaku finding the equaliser to set up a tense finish.
However, Germany snatched victory late on through Deniz Undav, who capitalised on an assist from Sané to seal the win.
Despite the result, Woltemade admitted Germany were pushed hard throughout the contest, particularly by Ghana’s counter-attacking threat.
The Black Stars will now shift focus to upcoming friendlies against Mexico and Wales in May as they continue preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
