Dr. Prosper Ogum Names Black Starlets Squad for U-17 AFCON

Prosper Narteh Ogum has unveiled Ghana’s squad for the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations as the Ghana national under-17 football team prepare for the tournament in Rabat.

The competition begins on May 13, with Ghana set to open their Group D campaign against Algeria on May 14 before facing Senegal and South Africa in what is considered one of the tournament’s toughest groups.

Dr. Ogum has selected a 21-man squad blending defensive discipline, midfield creativity and attacking flair as Ghana seeks to restore its reputation in African youth football.

Goalkeepers Solomon Kesse, Michael Armah and John Annan headline the squad’s last line of defence after impressive performances during preparatory matches.

The defensive unit includes Mujahid Osman, Kingsley Fosu, Issah Raflu, Essau Atsu Kpoeti, Nicholas Essuman, Jacob Etse Kpoeti and Gabriel Denyinah, while the midfield will rely on the creativity of Issac Barfo, Augustine Appiah, Michael Awuli, Michael Nyantakyi, Eric Adu Gyamfi and Mark Kagawa Mensah.

In attack, Ghana will look to Mark Aboagye, Abdul Latif Wunzalgu, Joseph Narbi, Gavi Robinho Yao, Clement Agyei and David Ofori to provide goals and attacking spark.

“We have carefully selected this squad based on form, discipline, and tactical understanding,” Ogum said. “These boys have shown great commitment during our preparations, and I believe they are ready to compete at the highest level.”

The Black Starlets head into the tournament with confidence after encouraging performances in recent friendly matches against Ivory Coast, as hopes grow for another strong Ghanaian run at youth level.
