Carlos Queiroz says a dedicated scouting initiative is already helping the Black Stars technical team closely monitor players in the Ghana Premier League ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Local-based footballers have found it difficult in recent years to secure regular places in Ghana’s senior national team, but the Black Stars coach believes the new programme will improve the identification and assessment of domestic talent.
Speaking on the Beyond The Whistle podcast, Queiroz revealed that the scouting system was introduced to help him gain a better understanding of the local game and evaluate standout performers across the country.
“I went deeper to know some of the local players,” he said.
“We put this programme in place so I could see the best players and understand local football much faster,” he added.
The Portuguese trainer has been working closely with the Ghana Football Association as preparations continue for the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Ghana will be making a fifth appearance at football’s biggest tournament after securing qualification for the expanded 48-team competition.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
Ghana are scheduled to open their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
As part of their preparations, the Black Stars will also play friendly matches against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2.
