Sheikh Tophic Abdul-Kadir Sienu Calls for United Support Behind Black Stars

Senior Communications Member of the Ghana Football Association, Sheikh Tophic Abdul-Kadir Sienu, has called on Ghanaians to throw their full support behind the Black Stars as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a passionate message shared ahead of the tournament, Sienu stressed that supporting the national team goes beyond celebrating victories, insisting that players also need encouragement during difficult moments.

According to him, the 26 players selected for the World Cup carry the responsibility of representing the entire nation and deserve the backing of all Ghanaians regardless of personal opinions about squad selections.

“Whether you like a player selected or not, you have only one thing to do; support the team. The 26 has already been settled on. The rest is the support and the well-wishes,” he stated.

Sheikh Tophic also urged fans to avoid singling out individual players for criticism when mistakes occur, reminding supporters that football is a team sport where both success and failure are shared collectively.

He further highlighted the importance of protecting the mental well-being of players, describing them as human beings who need encouragement rather than hostility.

“If they win, we will be happy. If they don’t, we need to encourage them to come back stronger. This is what the players need from us,” he added.

The Black Stars are set to begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign in North America, where they have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
