The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a major increase in prize money for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with the tournament winners set to receive $2 million.
CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe unveiled the enhanced financial package during a press briefing, describing it as another important step in the Confederation’s drive to strengthen women’s football across Africa.
The revised prize fund represents the third increase in WAFCON prize money in the last three years, underlining CAF’s commitment to rewarding excellence while boosting the profile and commercial value of the competition.
The 2026 edition of WAFCON will be staged in Morocco from July 25 to August 16, with 12 nations competing for the continental crown.
The announcement comes as participating teams intensify their preparations, with the increased financial reward expected to provide additional motivation throughout the tournament.
Ghana’s Black Queens will be among the teams hoping to benefit from the enhanced prize fund as they pursue a historic first WAFCON title. The four-time runners-up have been drawn in Group D alongside Cameroon, Mali and Cape Verde.
CAF believes the improved financial incentives will further accelerate the growth of women’s football on the continent while encouraging greater investment in the women’s game by member associations.
