Championship side Swansea City have reached an agreement with Belgian outfit Zulte Waregem for the permanent signing of Ghanaian winger Joseph Opoku.
The deal is reported to be worth a total package of €7.3 million, with Swansea paying an initial €6.5 million transfer fee, while a further €800,000 is tied to performance-related add-ons. Zulte Waregem have also secured a 15 percent sell-on clause as part of the agreement.
Opoku is expected to travel to Munich on Monday to undergo his medical before completing the transfer. The move was facilitated by player agent Mitch Bakkovens.
The 22-year-old heads to South Wales after an outstanding campaign in the Belgian Pro League. He made 33 league appearances, starting 30 of those matches, while averaging 74 minutes per game.
His impressive displays in the final third saw him register 10 goals and six assists, making him one of Zulte Waregem’s standout performers during the season and attracting interest from clubs across Europe.
Capable of operating across the frontline but most effective on the left wing, Opoku is expected to add pace, creativity and goals to Swansea City’s attack as the Welsh club strengthens its squad ahead of the new campaign.
An official announcement is expected once the Ghanaian successfully completes his medical examinations and finalises the remaining paperwork.
