Kofi Adams to unveil LOC for Ghana’s 2027 U-20 AFCON preparations

As Ghana intensifies preparations to host the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams is expected to unveil a Local Organising Committee (LOC) to spearhead the planning and execution of the continental tournament.

The committee will play a central role in ensuring the championship is successfully delivered, overseeing critical areas including venue readiness, logistics, accommodation, security, marketing and overall tournament operations.

The move signals the beginning of Ghana’s next phase of preparations after the Black Satellites concluded their campaign at the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship, with focus now shifting towards hosting one of Africa’s biggest youth football competitions.

Hosting the tournament presents Ghana with another opportunity to showcase its football infrastructure and organisational capacity while welcoming the continent’s most promising young talents. It will also serve as a platform for the Black Satellites to compete for continental glory in front of home supporters.

The 2027 edition carries added national importance as it coincides with Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary, making the tournament one of the country’s landmark sporting events. Having lifted the U-20 AFCON trophy on home soil in 1999, expectations will be high for Ghana to once again deliver both on and off the pitch.
