Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo has etched his name into Ghanaian football history after becoming the first Ghanaian player to be named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
Semenyo’s selection caps a remarkable campaign in which he made a strong impact after joining Manchester City, quickly establishing himself as an influential attacking option with his pace, physicality and direct style of play.
His City career got off to a spectacular start on January 10, 2026, when he scored and provided an assist in a 10-1 FA Cup victory over Exeter City, earning the Man of the Match award on his debut.
Just three days later, Semenyo delivered another standout performance against Newcastle United in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final, scoring twice in City’s 2-0 victory. One of his goals was later ruled out by VAR after Erling Haaland was deemed offside and to have obstructed goalkeeper Nick Pope.
Semenyo’s performances throughout the season earned him recognition alongside some of the Premier League’s biggest stars, including Erling Haaland and Igor Thiago.
For Ghanaian football, the achievement represents a significant milestone, with Semenyo becoming the first player from the country to earn a place in the prestigious PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
