Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has expressed his frustration over his side’s profligacy in front of goal following their narrow 1-0 defeat to DR Congo powerhouse TP Mazembe in the CAF Champions League.
The Mauve and Yellow suffered a painful blow at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa on Sunday afternoon, undone by a late 87th-minute strike from substitute Lise Ntumba Nyembo that handed the visitors a crucial first-leg advantage in the preliminary round.
Despite putting up a strong competitive display and carving out multiple scoring opportunities throughout the match, Medeama failed to capitalize, leaving Tanko to rue what could have been.“Of course, if you lose a home game, definitely you’ll be disappointed. And the good thing is, we created a lot of chances, and we could have scored some goals, but unfortunately, we couldn’t, and that’s football,” Tanko told the press after the final whistle.
“And we pushed in the second half, trying to get our goal when they got one chance to score. So definitely, I’m disappointed. But I mean, that’s the game; we have a second chance next Sunday to see what will happen.”
The result leaves the Ghanaian side facing a daunting task ahead of the return leg in Lubumbashi, where they must overturn a one-goal deficit to keep their continental aspirations alive.
However, despite the home setback, Tanko remains upbeat and believes the tie remains entirely open as his squad prepares for the reverse fixture next weekend.
