Medeama Eliminated from CAF Champions League After Defeat to TP Mazembe

Medeama SC have been eliminated from the CAF Champions League after suffering a 3-1 defeat to TP Mazembe in the second leg of their preliminary round tie in Lubumbashi.

The Ghanaian champions travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg at the TNA Stadium. However, the five-time African champions proved too strong on home soil and secured a comfortable victory to progress 4-1 on aggregate.

TP Mazembe took control of the contest in the first half, with Patrick Mwanungulu opening the scoring after 16 minutes. Kazema Baso then doubled the hosts’ advantage eight minutes later, leaving Medeama with a difficult task heading into the second half.

Mwanungulu struck again in the 78th minute to complete his brace and effectively put the tie beyond Medeama’s reach. The visitors managed to find a consolation goal three minutes from full-time through Dominic Amponsah, but it was not enough to change the outcome.

The result sends TP Mazembe through to the next round, where they will face Zambia’s Red Arrows FC as they continue their pursuit of continental success.

Medeama will now turn their attention to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League and FA Cup.
