Ghana’s University for Development Studies (UDS) have successfully defended their African university football title after beating Julius Nyerere University of Guinea 2-1 in the final in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday.
The victory sees the Tamale-based institution achieve a historic feat, becoming the first university in African university football history to win the continental championship in successive editions.
UDS once again demonstrated their quality on the continental stage, overcoming a competitive Julius Nyerere University side to complete another successful campaign.
The Ghanaian representatives had booked their place in the final in impressive fashion, recording a convincing 4-0 victory over Egypt’s Delta University in the semi-finals.
Their latest triumph adds to an already remarkable period for UDS in international university football. In 2025, the institution also became the first African university to win the FISU World University Football Championship.
The back-to-back African championship crowns represent another major achievement for Ghanaian university football and further strengthen UDS’ reputation as one of the continent’s leading forces in the university game.
With their latest success in Cairo, UDS have once again placed Ghanaian university football firmly on the continental stage while setting a new benchmark for universities competing in Africa.
