Ghana’s Black Maidens delivered a dominant performance in the WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup, defeating Togo 4-0 at the Stade du Lycée Scientifique in Côte d’Ivoire.
The reigning champions wasted little time asserting themselves, with Gloria Ameaa breaking the deadlock early to put Ghana in front.
Captain Seidatu Wahab then extended the advantage from the penalty spot six minutes later, calmly converting her effort as Ghana continued to dictate proceedings.
The Black Maidens carried their momentum into the second half and added a third goal eight minutes after the restart, with Linda Achiaa finding the back of the net in the 53rd minute.
Achiaa completed her brace in the 69th minute to cap an impressive display from Nana Adarkwa’s side and secure all three points.
The victory marks Ghana’s second success in three matches at the tournament. The Black Maidens have collected six points, having previously defeated Burkina Faso before suffering a setback against Nigeria.
This year’s competition is being contested by five nations following Benin’s withdrawal. The tournament is being played in a league format, meaning there will be no knockout stage, with the team accumulating the most points crowned champions.
Ghana will return to action on Thursday, September 24, when they take on Niger at the Stade CKB, with the match scheduled to kick off at 2:00pm.
Their final fixture will come against hosts Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday, September 27, at 6:00pm at the same venue.
The Black Maidens will be hoping to maintain their momentum in the remaining matches as they pursue another regional title and continue their journey towards the 2027 U-17 Girls Africa Cup of Nations.
