Ghana Premier League debutants Port City FC secured an impressive 2-0 victory over Bibiani Gold Stars at Dun’s Park on Sunday to claim all three points on the road.
The visitors made a fast start and took control of the contest with two goals in the opening 20 minutes, leaving the Miners with a difficult task for the remainder of the game.
Port City opened the scoring after just eight minutes when Gideon Waja delivered a defence-splitting pass for Emmanuel Intori, who calmly chipped goalkeeper Emmanuel Kobi to put the visitors ahead.
Robert Gyamfi doubled Port City’s advantage in the 20th minute, producing a composed finish after connecting with Owusu Ansah’s cross. Intori nearly added a third before the break after controlling a long pass from defence and driving into the box, but he lifted his effort over the crossbar.
Bibiani Gold Stars showed signs of a comeback after the interval, but Christopher Ennin’s Port City side remained disciplined and held firm to secure their first away victory of the campaign. The result moves the Premier League newcomers into third place in the standings.
The defeat will disappoint Gold Stars head coach Petros Koukouras after his side had secured an impressive victory over Dreams FC last weekend. The Miners have now dropped into the bottom three and will travel to face Vision FC in their next fixture, while Port City will visit defending champions Medeama SC in their outstanding midweek match as they look to maintain their strong start.
