Kojo Oppong Peprah Remains Confident Ghana Can Qualify for AFCON 2027

Ghana defender Kojo Oppong Peprah has expressed confidence that the Black Stars can still secure qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations despite a difficult start to their campaign.

The four-time African champions suffered defeats in their opening two Group C matches, losing 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké before suffering a 4-2 home defeat to The Gambia in Accra. The results have left Ghana at the bottom of the group without a point.

Despite the disappointing results, Oppong Peprah believes the Black Stars can learn from the setbacks and recover in the remaining matches.

“Not the international break we hoped for. We failed to get the results we wanted, but the journey isn’t over yet. We will learn, regroup, and come back stronger. The fight continues, and we will give everything we have to put our nation back where it belongs. Together, we keep fighting,” the Fenerbahçe defender posted on social media.

The back-to-back defeats also resulted in the departure of head coach Carlos Queiroz, with the Ghana Football Association now searching for his replacement. A planned friendly against Morocco has also been cancelled as part of the changes following the defeat to The Gambia.

Oppong Peprah and his Black Stars teammates have since left Ghana to return to their respective clubs, with attention now turning to the next stage of the AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign.
