AFCON winner Mohammed Polo has backed Kassim Mingle and Abdul Karim Zito as potential candidates to lead the Black Stars following the departure of Carlos Queiroz.
Queiroz left his position on October 1, leaving the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation searching for a new head coach. Polo believes experienced local coaches should be given serious consideration in the search.
Polo identified Kassim Mingle as his preferred option while also calling for Abdul Karim Zito to be considered for a role within the technical team.
“At our background, back yard there. That was Zito. Unfortunately, it’s not in the scene. I don’t hear what, I don’t know whether he’s relaxed or whatever. But football, there is an option now. Otherwise, I would have, you know, I would have, you know, say it’s somebody who can be given the chance to do something,” Polo said.
He also highlighted Mingle’s coaching experience and believes the former Swedru All Blacks coach deserves an opportunity with the senior national team.
“To me, Kassim Mingle is the only eye that I look at. And they’re giving him Under-17s,” he added.
Mingle has worked with several Ghanaian clubs and national youth teams, while Zito has extensive experience at both club and international youth level. Polo’s comments come as the GFA’s five-member search committee begins the process of identifying Queiroz’s successor.
