Former Dreams FC coach Abdul Karim Zito has called for greater confidence in local coaches, arguing that giving them opportunities with the Black Stars could bring both commitment and financial benefits to Ghana football.
Zito’s comments come after former Black Stars player Mohammed Polo backed him and Kassim Mingle as potential candidates to lead the senior national team following the departure of Carlos Queiroz.
According to Zito, local coaches approach the national team job with a strong sense of commitment and are motivated by the opportunity to achieve success rather than financial rewards.
“We cannot charge Ghana the way a foreign coach would, but a local coach will work with all his heart and commitment to achieve success. We, local coaches, don’t look at money; we look at achievement,” Zito said in an interview with Akoma Sports.
The experienced coach also urged Ghana to follow the example of Senegal by investing in and developing its own coaching talent rather than relying heavily on foreign coaches.
“Build us, just as Senegal did. Have confidence in your own people, and it will help reduce your financial burden,” he added.
Zito’s comments come as the Ghana Football Association’s five-member search committee begins the process of finding a successor to Queiroz, with the debate over local and foreign coaches expected to remain a major talking point in the search.
