Ghana’s Black Starlets assistant coach, Hamza Mohammed, says the team’s opening victory over Togo has lifted confidence in the squad ahead of their crucial Group A encounter against Benin at the 2026 WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship.
The Starlets began their campaign with a 1-0 win over Togo in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, securing three valuable points as they pursue qualification for the semi-finals.
Mohammed believes the positive result has strengthened the players belief, but he has also reminded the team that winning their opening game brings added expectations as they prepare for their next challenge.
“Winning the first game has really boosted our confidence. So far we are the only side with a win in the tournament and that comes with its own demands,” he said.
Ghana will face Benin on Tuesday, with a victory enough to guarantee the Black Starlets a place in the last four. The technical team will be looking for another composed performance while working to improve areas identified during the opening match.
With their confidence boosted by the win over Togo, the Starlets will aim to maintain their momentum, overcome Benin and move a step closer to their tournament ambitions.
