EDITORIAL: WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE GFA?: FAN FACTS ABOUT THE FA’S SYSTEM

The government of Ghana doesn’t spend on the GFA.

The GFA has its headquarters in Accra, 10 RFAs, two technical centres and 1 technical directorate.

The GPL, the WPL, the DOL, and the Colts leagues, beach soccer, and Futsal as some of our products.

In addition, GFA administers refereeing training programs, coaching training programs, sending coaches and referees abroad to build capacity, courses for club administrators, and many more. In all these, the FA has fully employed staff who are paid by the FA.

The GFA generate funds internally from club affiliation fees, player transfers, FIFA Subventions, and FIFA Forward Programs (and these are fully funded and administered by FIFA themselves), fines, sponsorship etc.

The government doesn’t fund the FA.

Let’s all be informed by this system itinerary, guided, and educate the public accordingly when the opportunity comes or is granted.

The point of intersection between the FA and the Government of Ghana is the national teams.

Now, for a fact, the national teams belong to the government or the people of Ghana unequivocally or without any arguments.

The GFA is only holding the national teams in trust for the nation as caretakers. It is so because the FA are the organizers, regulators, and promoters of football in the country. While GFA does everything within their power to handle the national teams in the best interest of Ghanaians, the GFA isn’t paid by the government.

The government funds the national teams directly from the Sports Ministry. When the national teams have assignments, a purse holder (an accountant in most cases) from the Sports Ministry is sent to the national teams to spend directly. So in cases the national teams travel, the purse holder travels with the team and anything GFA needs. He goes to buy it and does not give the money to any GFA member to buy them. Even if the GFA need banana or salt or water or oranges, the purpse holder goes to buy them, take his receipt for accounting purposes, and do not even show it to the GFA. So, how can one conclude that the government is funding the GFA?

We believe our write-up has educated, informed enough to correct the facts and the misinformation shared around sometimes.
