Ghana U-17 women’s coach Nana Adarkwah has expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance against Brazil despite missing out on victory at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
The Black Maidens fought back twice to secure a 3-3 draw against the South American side in their second Group C match on Wednesday, October 21, bouncing back from their disappointing 3-0 defeat to Norway in their opening fixture.
Despite the draw, Adarkwah believes his players delivered an encouraging performance against one of the tournament’s strongest sides, although he acknowledged that Ghana could have claimed all three points with better finishing.
Speaking to FIFA Media after the game, the Ghana coach praised his players’ efforts and highlighted the importance of the experience for the young squad.
“We did very well. We are in one of the toughest groups, but I’m proud of my girls,” he said.
“After equalising, we had so many chances, but they are young, they are learning, so we have a lot to do with the girls, but I’m happy for them.”
Adarkwah also recognised Brazil’s status in women’s football but expressed confidence that Ghana would continue to develop and eventually compete at the highest level.
“We are like them, but Brazil are up there. We are getting stronger, and we will get there,” he added.
The draw leaves Ghana with one point from their opening two matches, placing them under pressure ahead of their final Group C encounter against Canada on Saturday, October 24.
The Black Maidens will need a strong performance against the Canadians to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage alive.
Despite the challenging start to their campaign, Adarkwah will hope his team’s spirited display against Brazil provides the confidence needed to finish the group stage strongly.
