Kotoko target home win as league leaders Medeama visit Baba Yara

Asante Kotoko will be aiming to revive their Ghana Premier League campaign when they host defending champions Medeama SC in a crucial Matchday Nine fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

The encounter presents an important test for both sides, with Kotoko eager to close the gap on the leading teams while Medeama seek to maintain their position at the top of the league table.

Kotoko approach the fixture under pressure to deliver after dropping points in their previous outing. The Porcupine Warriors were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Ashanti Gold 04 at the Len Clay Stadium last Sunday, extending a run of inconsistent results.

Sitting eighth with 12 points after eight matches, the Kumasi-based club have struggled to build momentum, recording two wins, one draw and two defeats in their last five league games. They have scored nine goals and conceded nine over that period.

However, their home form offers a reason for optimism. All three of Kotoko’s league victories this season have come at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, making Sunday’s fixture an opportunity to rediscover their winning touch in front of their supporters.

Their recent home record against Medeama also provides some encouragement. Kotoko have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six league meetings with the Tarkwa-based side at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium since the 2020/21 season.

Medeama, meanwhile, arrive in Kumasi looking to build on their response to their first league defeat of the campaign. The defending champions bounced back with a 1-0 victory over Aduana FC at the TnA Stadium last weekend.

That result kept the Mauve and Yellow at the summit with 17 points from eight matches, having recorded four wins in their last five league outings. They have scored 14 goals and conceded seven during that spell.

Despite their impressive overall form, Medeama will be aware that their away record could be a concern. They have managed just one win, two draws and one defeat in four away league matches this season.

The visitors will therefore need to produce a disciplined performance against a Kotoko side that will be motivated to make home advantage count.

With the Porcupine Warriors seeking a return to winning ways and Medeama determined to protect their position at the top, Sunday’s contest promises to be a significant test of both teams’ ambitions in the 2026/27 campaign.
