The Black Maidens of Ghana will face Japan in the quarter-finals of the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after both sides secured victories in their respective Round of 16 matches.
The Black Maidens booked their place in the last eight following a dramatic 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Argentina on Wednesday at the Mohammed VI Sports Complex.
The encounter ended 1-1 after regulation time, with Ghana showing resilience before holding their nerve to win the subsequent penalty shootout and progress to the quarter-finals.
Japan, meanwhile, secured their place in the same stage with a 3-1 victory over Kenya in their Round of 16 clash on Thursday.
The two sides will now meet on Sunday, November, with a place in the semi-finals at stake.
The quarter-final encounter is scheduled to kick off at 15:00 GMT.
Despite a challenging start to the competition, head coach Joe Nana Adarkwa and his players will be eager to maintain their momentum and secure a place in the last four.
The Black Maidens will also be hoping to make history by advancing further in the competition as they continue their quest for a strong finish on the global stage.
