Ahmed Simba Toure Warns Kotoko Against Sacking Prince Owusu Mid-Season

Asante Kotoko management is currently under intense pressure following the club’s recent struggles, with fans, journalists, and former players expressing concerns that the season may already be over.

Kotoko’s defeat to rivals Hearts of Oak has widened the gap between the Porcupine Warriors and league leaders Medeama SC to nine points. Head coach Prince Owusu has already admitted that winning the league will be very difficult. Matters were made worse after Kotoko were eliminated from the MTN FA Cup by Aduana Stars, losing 4–2 on penalties.

One major concern among sections of the supporters is Owusu’s previous role as assistant coach to Karim Zito. Many believe that if Zito failed to lead the club successfully, his assistant may also struggle in the role.

However, former Asante Kotoko striker Ahmed Simba Toure has strongly disagreed with that view. Speaking on HOT 93.9 FM, Toure urged the club’s hierarchy to exercise patience, insisting that sacking the coach at this stage would be a costly mistake.

🗣️ “It will be a mistake if Kotoko sacks coach Prince Yaw Owusu now. He should be given the chance until the end of the season,” Toure said.

As it stands, the Porcupine Warriors sit 5th on the Ghana Premier League table with 39 points after 22 matches. They will next travel away to face Young Apostles on Sunday.
