Kofi Adams has issued a strong warning to the Ghana national team, insisting that anything short of a quarter-final finish at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be deemed a failure.
Speaking to GhanaWeb TV, the Minister for Sports and Recreation подчеркed the need to restore Ghana’s status as a powerhouse on the continent following recent disappointments.
“Considering our name and pedigree, anything below the quarter-finals means it would have been better if we hadn’t gone. For AFCON, anything below the quarter-final stage is unacceptable,” he stated.
His comments come in the wake of Ghana’s declining performances, including failure to qualify for a recent AFCON and back-to-back group stage exits in previous tournaments.
Adams stressed that clear standards must be set for players, urging them to understand the weight of representing the nation.
“We must set a standard and let the players know the flag they are holding,” he added.
With qualification for the 2027 tournament yet to begin, attention now turns to rebuilding a competitive squad capable of meeting these expectations.
