AshantiGold target fourth straight home win against Kotoko in Ashanti Derby

FC AshantiGold 04 will aim to extend their impressive home record when they host regional rivals Asante Kotoko in a Matchweek Eight clash of the Ghana Premier League at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi on Sunday.

The Miners head into the Ashanti Derby looking to bounce back from their recent defeat to Aduana FC while maintaining their strong start to life back in the top flight.

AshantiGold have won all three of their home league matches this season, recording victories over Vision FC, Debibi United and FC Samartex 1996.

They will be determined to extend that run to four consecutive home victories against a Kotoko side eager to claim regional bragging rights.

The Obuasi-based club’s impressive home form stretches beyond the current campaign, with the Miners unbeaten in their last 18 home league matches, recording 15 wins and three draws dating back to their time in the Division One League.

That record will provide encouragement for head coach Abdul Karim Zito, a former Asante Kotoko manager, as he prepares his team for a challenging encounter against his former club.

However, AshantiGold will need to respond positively after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Aduana FC in their previous league outing, a result that ended their immediate push for another victory.

Kotoko, meanwhile, travel to Obuasi with their own ambitions, knowing that a positive result against their regional rivals would provide a significant boost to their league campaign.

The fixture promises an intense contest between two clubs with a rich history in Ghanaian football, with AshantiGold hoping their home advantage will prove decisive.

With the Miners seeking to preserve their unbeaten home record and Kotoko chasing victory in one of Ghana’s notable regional rivalries, Sunday’s encounter is expected to deliver an intriguing battle at the Len Clay Stadium.
