Augustine Boakye On Target as Saint-Étienne Strengthen Promotion Push

Ghanaian attacker Augustine Boakye delivered another standout performance in the Ligue 2, playing a key role in AS Saint-Étienne’s important victory over Stade Lavallois on Saturday.

The former WAFA Academy forward continued his fine run of form by getting on the scoresheet in a match that could prove crucial in Saint-Étienne’s pursuit of promotion to the French top division.

The hosts wasted little time asserting themselves, taking the lead just three minutes into the contest. Georgian winger Zuriko Davitashvili confidently converted from the penalty spot to put the Greens ahead early.

Lavallois, however, refused to sit back and found a response before the break. Malian striker Mamadou Camara capitalised on a defensive mistake in the 36th minute to draw the visitors level.

Saint-Étienne regained their edge moments before halftime, with Boakye finishing off a well-worked move. The 25-year-old calmly slotted home after connecting with a precise delivery from Belgian forward Lucas Stassin, restoring his side’s advantage heading into the interval.

Late in the encounter, Ghana defender Ebenezer Annan was introduced in the 89th minute as the home side tightened up defensively to see out the result.

The win keeps Saint-Étienne firmly in second place on the Ligue 2 standings as they step up their chase for automatic promotion.

Boakye’s contribution takes his season tally to five goals and five assists in 21 league appearances, highlighting his growing influence in the club’s promotion charge.
